    Presentation Description:

As human resource professionals, we’re often called upon to conduct workplace investigations for our organizations, and the need for proper planning can’t be overstated.  Human resource professionals must resist the temptation to jump into the investigation head-first.  Instead, they must assess each situation on a case-by-case basis and take appropriate steps to ensure a timely, fair, and legally defensible investigation.  Failure to conduct an effective workplace investigation can cost organizations in lost time, energy, and resources.  During this 50-minute presentation, Michelle will discuss the following:

    ·       Determining whether a workplace investigation is needed/required

    ·       Selecting the investigator

    ·       Establishing the scope of the investigation

    ·       Planning and preparing for the investigation

    ·       Identifying and framing the allegations

    ·       Selecting witnesses and collecting evidence

    ·       Informing the accused of the allegations against him or her

    ·       Developing effective interview questions for witnesses and the accused

    ·       Assessing credibility of witnesses and the accused

    ·       Determining how much information to share with management, witnesses, and the accused

    ·       Protecting confidentiality and privacy

    ·       Determining the findings of the investigation

    ·       Drafting legally defensible investigative report
