Teri Knutson started working with the felon population in 2008 by providing Job Search and Soft Skills classes at the Gallatin County Pre Release.  Shortly after that Probation and Parole officers started to refer their customers directly to Teri. When the New Gallatin County Detention Center opened in 2011 she started teaching job search and soft skills classes at the Detention Center as well. Just recently Gallatin County Court Services (Misdemeanor offenses) requested training on working with individuals who had been incarcerated.

In 2014, Teri worked with over 300 individuals who had been touched by the criminal justice system. Her work with this population has seen significant results, including: no individual who is on a 10 day furlough has ever returned to incarceration due to lack of employment.  In 2014 the Gallatin County PreRelease had 14 weeks of full employment, in which all 42 residents were employed. She has assisted two women to become electrician’s apprentices, significantly increasing their life-long earnings.  She is active with the Gallatin County Reentry Task force and this year Bozeman Job Service was recognized for the work they do with the felon population by the Community Mediation Center, and received the 2015 Peacekeeper Award for promoting economic security.

Teri will; help you understand this population, answer your questions and relieve your fears about hiring and working with the formerly incarcerated population.

If you have specific questions regarding this topic you would like the speaker to address, please send them to Teri Knutson ahead of time to be sure she is prepared to address them.
